The curmudgeon ended up getting a different speaker for the time being, but he clearly planned to return it and exchange it for the brand he was looking for whenever it was available again. The problem was that the employee made his receipt particularly inaccessible while still following the rules of the store.
It would be really difficult for the customer to find his receipt, and he was going to need that as proof if he ever wanted to exchange it. That's what you get for being entitled to total strangers, sir! After all, you never know when those strangers can make your life all the more frustrating. Call it an eye for an eye, or rather, a speaker for a speaker.
